Rocky Gap State Park

On our way back from Deep Creek Lake we stopped at Rocky Gap State Park. We stayed at the Rocky Gap Resort for two nights. After all the space we had at Deep Creek Lake, it was a bit of a comedown to spend $400 for two nights in a room!

The resort is nice although the carpet in the room could be replaced. It was convenient to the park - we walked into the park and made it around the Lakeside Trail - all 5 miles all of if albeit with a little complaining from K1 and K2. Fortunately, it was a mostly cloudy day. On the way we stopped at the campground store for ice cream and water. There is also a beach and a picnic area at the campground store as well as near the resort. The resort rented out bikes and canoes but we didn't try those. We may in the future, which means, yes, the stay was pleasant enough that we would come back.

We ate at the restaurant in the resort (at resort prices) which had a great lake view. We also had breakfast there once ($14 for buffet per adult, $7 per child). We went to Pucinni's which was approximately 10 minutes away for dinner one night. We got hopelessly lost trying to find the restaurant and had to backtrack to find it. It had the best garlic bread (or perhaps it was because we were hungry) - shaped like a pizza. The entrees were not bad and K1 and K2 found something on the menu they could eat. The resort pool was not too big but we only went in once. Internet access was $6.00 per night. It would have been nice to try to visit Cumberland, MD but we ran out of time.

Maybe next time - along with the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
