Deep Creek Lake

The week before Labor Day (and the week before school began for K1 and K2) we went off to Deep Creek Lake. Instead of looking for a hotel, we tried out a rental from VRBO which worked out pretty well. For about $600 total (4 nights) we got a 3 bedroom log "cabin" which came with a foosball table. K1 and K2 loved it! Unfortunately, it was right off the highway (Hwy 219) which was a little too noisy for me and consequently affected my sleep.

This was our first time to the area and we found everyone friendly and pleasant. We hiked at Swallow Falls State Park - found the waterfalls on the trails, which aren't all that awesome but the kids loved it anyways. We also took a trip to Fallingwater in Ohiopyle, PA. I may be tempted to return to Ohiopyle only because of the state park. We visited Deep Creek Lake State Park twice. K1 and K2 enjoyed wading in the water at the beach area. We tried looking for the trail heads but they weren't very well marked and by the time we found them it was a little too late to go.

We ate at the Pizzeria Unos at Arrowhead which was really close to our rental. It was by the water and was nice. We also tried Perkins and Santa Fe Grill in McHenry about 10 minutes drive away and they worked out fine for us as well.

In any case, we would probably return there again with another rental. Incidentally, the original place we were renting had to cancel a week before we were scheduled to leave and we scrambled around looking for th place that we eventually ended up with - so all's well that end's well. It was certainly more value than a hotel room or suite.
